Sprung

Now into the first week of spring, and with the vestiges of last week-end's winter storm dissipating, it's finally beginning to look a little like spring has sprung around here. I love spring -- except for the pollen in the air and the allergies that go with it! When the dogwood and cherry trees begin to bloom, and the tulips show off their colors, and the lawns begin to turn green, it's a breath of fresh air, literally.

No doubt the increased sunshine contributes to the elevated mood most of us experience this time of year. Overcast skies, it's pretty well documented, make us feel a little down over time. But spring refreshes, instills new energy, makes us want to get out and about, putter in the garden, walk a trail.

Spring is also the time when, as disciples of Jesus, we think especially of the Cross and Resurrection of Christ. New life, really! And because He lives, we too have eternal life in Him. Not only new life, but life eternal. Even when the dark clouds gather, even when the harsh winter wind chills, even when it appears life is nearing its end, there is a New Beginning!
