Holy Week

It's Holy Week for many churches. Yesterday was Palm Sunday, commemorating Christ's entry into the city of Jerusalem and the beginning of the end of his public ministry. Christians will celebrate this special week with processionals, choral music, Maundy Thursday Commmunion services, Tennebrae or Good Friday services, Easter sunrise services. Some will have Seder meals to honor the Passover tradition which was the setting for Christ's Last Supper with his disciples. Liturgical churches will observe ceremonial foot-washing ministries, remembering Christ's act of servanthood in the Upper Room.

There will also be family fun activities, including Easter egg hunts, Easter dinners with family gatherings, puttering in yards and gardens. (Some seeds, evidently, are best planted on Good Friday.)

There's a sense in which every week is a holy week. All time is sacred, when you think about it. But this is nonetheless a special time. We walk with Jesus the Way of the Cross, and we listen for the angel's word at the tomb, "He is not here. He is risen."
