Christmas cards

I always look forward to receiving Christmas cards and letters from distant friends during this season. We don't stay in touch as frequently as we would like, so it's great to at least be reminded of the warm relationships we have shared over the years. Sometimes folks include a summary of the year's activities, happenings in the family and so on. I can almost see the expressions on their faces as they talk about funny episodes, or vacations, or the accomplishments of grandchildren. At times the news is somber, as I learn of the death or illness of a friend from time past, but such sharing, also, brings us closer once again.

But I have to admit that I'm more eager to receive these Christmas greetings than to take the time to write and send them myself! I tend to procrastinate. But when at last I do get around to writing the cards, that too is a great blessing. Once again these dear ones are specifically called to mind. Invariably I feel that my own Christmas celebration is enhanced just by doing this little task. Along with the card and the note, there's always a quite prayer for that friend or family. Separated by the miles and the years, we are still at home together. Is this a foretaste of a life Beyond that we can only imagine?
