A blessed grief

The apostle Paul observed that we Christian disciples 'do not grieve as those do who are without hope.' We are assured of Christ's victory over death, and those who trust in him are to know the joys of eternal life. Last week my mother died, having lived a long and beautiful life. She and my father, an ordained minister, were married 69 years. For her memorial service, beloved family members and friends gathered to give thanks to God for the gift we knew in Louise. This support of love and prayer was an incomparable consolation to my Dad, my sister and me, and I am grateful for it.

Often I have wondered how folks deal with bereavement and other heartaches if they do not have the loving support of Christian friends and a faith in God that sustains them. I pray that I may be instrumental in helping people come to Christ, and there find hope and peace.
