The month of June has traditionally been a time for weddings. That was true, certainly, for my parents Sam and Louise who were married 69 years ago today! They have been a model of love and devotion to me and countless others through the years, serving as a pastoral family over three generations.
John's Gospel reports Christ's first miracle occurring at a wedding in the town of Cana. There, according to the account, Christ changed water to wine. To my mind, this shows the difference Christ can make in marriage and family life. There is no question that for my folks, their life together as servants of Christ has been the sweetest of wines. And that relationship has inspired many young people to consider Christian discipleship for themselves.
