I like Jim Henderson's insight that evangelism, sharing our faith with others, just means being oneself. Often those of us who are interested in developing our aptitude for evangelism focus on methods and how-tos. But in his book Evangelism Without Additives, Henderson makes the point that the capacity to share our faith includes all the small ways we attempt to connect with the 'folks Jesus misses most' (a.k.a. "lost"). So he refers to Ordinary Attempts, which I'm calling OAs.
"An Ordinary Attempt is just what the name implies," Jim writes. "It's something anyone can do. You don't need special skills or experience; you just have to be aware and available. It's an attempt, not an accomplishment, so no extra credit is awarded for succeeding and no demerits are given for failing. Ordinary Attempts are this easy: They are nothing more than free attention give-aways."
Hmmm. Paying attention to others. What a novel idea!
