Sometimes folks who are interested in sharing their Christian faith with others think if they could just find the right method or formula, they would have no trouble with evangelism. Not to minimize the importance of honing our communication skills, particularly our capacity to listen and to be sensitive to opportunities for faith sharing, it's my conviction that sharing our faith cannot be reduced to a method. It is more a matter of who we are as disciples. Our witness is the totality of our life, the decisions we make, the priorities we set, the commitments we honor. Yes, there are many times when we need to speak our witness, to put our faith experience into words for the purpose of helping another to begin a relationship with Christ (or not). But again, that is an outgrowth of our being who we are in Christ, not something imported to our Christian life from somewhere else.
I'm for learning anything we can about how to more effectively share our faith with others. But unless that is motivated by a growing closeness to Christ in our own lives, I don't believe any method or style will give us the confidence we are looking for.
