OMG, For Sure

Okay, so I'm old enough to remember when the phrase, "Oh, my God!", was considered profanity unless uttered in extremis or in prayer. I admit that it grates on my nerves to hear someone offer that as a lame exclamation in a ridiculous TV commercial, reality show, or text message. Today it's such an omnipresent expression in ordinary conversation that it has literally no meaning.

But what if there's something else going on here? What if, from the confusion of our postmodern disintegration of practically every once-treasured "value," there is still that tiny, clouded awareness of something more, something genuine and timeless? Suppose the silliness of this phrase is itself a grasping for meaning, a quest however detoured for the Beyond.

Maybe there's something to work with here, for the disciple wanting to make a connection with folks who are spiritually at a loss.
