It was a gorgeous day to drive. A springtime palette covered the hillsides and valleys as I passed through parts of four southern states. Traffic was reasonably light, rest stops reasonably clean, fast-food cashiers reasonably courteous. A good day!
All along the way I saw the familiar barn-roof ads: 'See Rock City,' 'See Ruby Falls,' 'See Lookout Mountain.' I had never paid much attention to these invitations before. But when I drew near Chattanooga in the late afternoon, I decided -- for the first time -- to detour up the scenic Lookout Mountain Parkway. And though I didn't actually 'see' the 'attractions' in the area, I do have a desire to do so someday.
That got me wondering if perhaps there are those who, along life's highway, keep seeing our ubiquitous church signs, may even detour to check one out occasionally, and who may harbor a curiosity about stopping for a more careful look, someday.
