Dogwoods

The scents and sights of spring have taken over in the community where I live. There is no more beautiful time, for me. I especially love the dogwoods growing in wooded areas nearby. They are almost magical in design.

Yesterday in an Easter service the pastor told the children of the Legend of the Dogwood, how it was believed to have been the wood from which the Cross of Christ was originally hewn. But because of that use, it was never again to be a tall and straight tree. Instead, the branches are spindly and scattered with lovely blooms that form a white cross, tinged with tiny red dots.

Legend or no, the dogwoods and all the blossoms of springtime do put one in mind of new life. The Resurrection of Jesus opens the door to new life for anyone who believes in him as Lord.
