April Fool

1 Corinthians 4:10 - "We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ."

Today there may be a few practical jokes associated with "April Fool's Day." Hopefully, it will all be in good fun. But we know how it feels, too, to be "made a fool of," and that isn't so pleasant. Here in this passage the apostle is reminding the know-it-alls in the church of Corinth of the sacrifices that have been made in their behalf so that they may have the wisdom of the gospel.

Are there times when we feel foolish in sharing the gospel? St. Paul spoke of the preaching of Christ crucified as "folly" in the eyes of many, though he pointed out that the "foolishness of God is wiser than people," and that "God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise..." Jesus said something similar, giving thanks to the Heavenly Father that these things were revealed not to the wise, the great and powerful, but to "babes." In part, sharing our faith with others requires us to leave our comfort zone, and that may well make us feel foolish or intimidated. From the standpoint that God's foolishness is wiser than our wisdom, are we willing to be a fool for Christ's sake today?
