Joel 3:13, 14 - "Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe... Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision!"
Jesus urged his followers to lift up their eyes and see that the harvest is ready. The prophet Joel was inspired to "see" in that particular way, too. Today, there are multitudes in the valley of decision. Are we, Christ's ambassadors, as sensitive to that reality as we could be?
The valley of decision might be interpreted in many ways, of course. There is a sense in which daily life is one decision after another. Yet we have the strong impression that the decision on the prophet's mind is similar to the one Joshua set before the people: "Choose this day whom you will serve. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." And the fields that are ripe for harvest in the Master's analogy represent folks facing some of life's most challenging decisions. Is there someone we know who is struggling with such a decision? Take a moment and pray for that person, and pray for the Spirit's guidance in being a caring friend.
