Discipleship

Acts 6:7 "The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly..."

One way of thinking about evangelism is that it's the many varied means of helping persons commit to faith in Christ and the life of discipleship. This represents for them a new approach to life, a fresh sense of purpose, and identification with a new community. My friend Lynn Thomas, talks about it this way.

"God's Kingdom reflects a culture. Cultures are defined by their unique viewpoints, their different ways of doing things, their understanding as to how one relates to others, their distinctive set of priorities. Cultures are learned. Discipleship is teaching the Kingdom culture to new believers. Discipleship is helping the new believer appreciate all the new sights, sounds, smells and tastes of their new culture."
